EVA attends SWECCA general assembly

  • On 23 May, the EVA had the pleasure to attend the SWECCA (Swedish Coffee & Convenience Association) spring general assembly meeting in Stockholm

The event was a great opportunity to catch up with Swedish colleagues and hear about and understand current issues impacting the industry there. The EVA, represented by Public Affairs Manager David Irvine, presented the latest news from the Association, including the recent legislative developments from Brussels that have an impact on the sector.

The event had a presentation from the organisation Säker Vatten (‘Safe Water’) which sets guidance and recommendations for the secure installation of water pipes and connections, and which has published recommendations that hot drinks coffee machines should have an anti-drip tray placed under each machine, also containing a sensor. The largest procurement requests are now requesting that operators comply with this, even though they are not plumbers and the measures are impractical and costly. The EVA will now support SWECCA to help find a solution to this issue.

In other topics, the meeting heard about the SWECCA activities more generally, from Barry Callebaut on the rise of cocoa prices as well as a presentation about coffee trends among generation Z.

Following some team games, the day concluded with a jovial evening dinner with the members at the venue in Saltsjöbaden on the outskirts of Stockholm.
